Ramadhan 1429 Program and Schedule

Islam on Oahu

Assalamu 'Alaikum dear brother and sisters

As you know, either Sunday August 31st or Monday September 1st. we will Insha'Allah meet a glorious and very blessed month. As soon as we confirm the start date, we will Insha'Allah send you an email update and change our voice mail (808) 947-6263. I want to remind you and myself of what our beloved Prophet saws said:

Ibn Khuzaima reported on the authority of Salman al-Farisi that the Prophet (saaw) delivered a Khutbah on the last day of Sh'aban saying: "O people: You are about to enter the shadow of a great blessed month. A night therein is better than a thousand months. Allah (swt) made fasting during this month an obligation and encouraged people to perform extra prayers during its nights. Seeking nearness to Allah (swt) through a good deed would be considered like performing an obligatory act of worship. In turn, performance of an obligatory act of worship during this month would be rewarded seventy times more than during any other month. It is the month of patience, and the reward for patience is Jannah. It is the month of comforting others, and the month during which believers would enjoy plentifulness. The Prophet (saaw) went on to say:" Make sure you frequently do four things, two of which would please your Lord and the other two are indispensable for your salvation in the Hereafter. As for the two things that would please your Lord, they are: testifying to the oneness of Allah (swt) and seeking repentance. And the other two are: asking Allah the favor of entering Jannah and seeking refuge in Him from the Hell Fire."

Men speak out against rise in domestic abuse

General News

By ROB PEREZ
Advertiser Staff Writer

In the struggle to curb domestic abuse, a handful of men sounded the alarm yesterday.

Spurred to action by nine deaths over the past year, the religious leaders, nonprofit executives, politicians, community activists and others pledged to support efforts to end a vicious cycle of violence against Hawai'i's women and children and to be positive role models and mentors.

Standing outside the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace in Downtown, they encouraged other men to join them in speaking out against the violence that so far this year has claimed the lives of a 7-year-old boy and his mother in Mililani, the mother of four children in 'Ewa Beach, an 'Aiea mom of an 18-year-old teen, a mother of five who was beaten to death on a Kailua street and a Kalihi woman who was stabbed with a kitchen knife at her apartment. In the Mililani, 'Ewa Beach and 'Aiea cases, police said the husbands committed the killings, then took their own lives.

Domestic Violence March

General News

By Jai Cunningham

About two dozen men are hoping to lead by example, letting other men and boys know that domestic violence is unacceptable.

"I'm even tempted to call it war against domestic violence, and we need to declare that, and we need to fight it,' says Raymund Liongson, Leeward Community College Professor.

And every man is welcome to enlist in this fight.

"And we are so happy that members of the Muslim community, members of the protestant community are here, members of the catholic and other christian charities are here," says Joe Bloom, Catholic Charities Hawaii.
